The centre of this eight lies between Widemouth Bay and Millook. It stretches inland
to Poundstock and the fringes of Trengayor Woods. Its range and contrast could be
described in terms of objective energy.
Widemouth Bay is alive with surfers. It is populated during
the summer months with lovers of sunny beaches and sand. The more southerly route
visits open farm land and slivers of ancient forest. Millook has a beach of cold
shingle. It is quieter. Whilst it is difficult not to trip over refreshment stalls in
Widemouth, Pounstock offers only thin streams from which to drink.
So. This eight is a journey through another feature of Cornwall's contrasts. In 9
miles it moves from brash holiday venue to quiet woodland, from hard slate pebbled
beach to acres of golden sand. It is as hard to recall the quietude of woodland from the busyness of Widemouth Sand
as it is to imagine the warmth of sand grains from the hard pebbles of Millook.
